NHS pay in England

The latest on the 2025/26 pay process

What is happening with NHS pay in England?

NHS pay for England is expected to progress through Pay Review Body (PRB) process. The PRB is independent from the government and reviews information and evidence from health unions, the government itself, and NHS employers. It will then make recommendations to ministers.  It is the government which decides whether to accept these recommendations.

The CSP has submitted participated in the evidence process, calling for an above inflation pay rise as a step to pay restoration for NHS staff.  We are concerned with the government's submission to the PRB - this said a 2.8 per cent increase should cover both a pay rise for staff and the structural reforms to the NHS pay structure that are required to address a number of problems and inequities that exist and are harming retention.

The CSP will continue to participate in the pay round, calling on the PRB to demonstrate its indepdence from government when developing pay recommendations.
