Physiotherapist Catherine Pope has been elected to a two-year term as chair of council at the CSP’s annual conference in Liverpool.

Ms Pope, who is clinical director of community specialist services and the associate director for allied health professionals at Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, takes over from Sue Rees.
Commenting on her new role, she said: ‘I am privileged to have been elected by my colleagues to the post.
‘This is a time of huge opportunities for the profession. With the need for an NHS that prevents, as well as treats, ill health, physiotherapy staff have the necessary skills and expertise to keep people independent and save money.’
The role includes overseeing the formation of CSP policy, representing the profession on the national stage and making the case that physiotherapy works to politicians, commissioners and in the media.
Ms Pope, whose background is in the mental health field, added: ‘Clearly, there are immense challenges for members in the NHS and independent sector, such as adjusting to service change and continued pay restraint.
'I am really looking forward to campaigning vigorously, alongside the society’s senior management team and staff, to represent the best interests of members.’
Ms Pope is succeeded as vice chair by Philip Hulse, therapy outpatients team lead at Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital Trust in Oswestry, Shropshire.
