Physiotherapy staff can now apply to a new scheme that aims to provide clinicians with all the skills and experience they need to take on future system leadership roles.
The NHS Regional Clinical Fellow Scheme had been developed by NHS England and NHS Improvement and the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management.
For its first intake, the scheme is seeking to recruit 28 Fellows, who will be placed on 12 month secondments within NHS regional teams across England.
The secondments, which are due to run from 1 September 2021 to 31 August 2022, will be less than full time posts (0.6FTW) and will see participants leading key projects that contribute to regional and national priorities, including the recovery, reset and implementation of learning from Covid-19.
The clinical fellow scheme is open to physiotherapists, and other AHPs, who want to develop their leadership, communication, strategic and team working skills - and who also have an interest in securing leadership roles in the future.
The Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management say the scheme offers an ideal way for ‘early career multi-professional clinicians’ to gain experience of working in regional systems and leading improvement projects across clinical pathways.
And they add that:
This scheme offers clinicians the unique opportunity to work within NHS Regional Teams in England to gain experience of system leadership, transformation, and service improvement, which will equip them with the skills they need to lead in a complex and integrated NHS in the future
How to apply
Applications must be made online, through the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management application portal.
The deadline for applications is 9am on 4 May 2021.
