CSP members from Yorkshire & Humber came together on Thursday 21st May for a regional gathering with a difference. More than 40 members met via Zoom to trial a virtual discussion on managing Covid-19 in Yorkshire & Humber.
The feedback revealed that many participants appreciated the opportunity to hear from other CSP members and share experiences.
A number of queries and questions were raised during the meeting under the following categories:
Community Rehab
The CSP is firmly committed to Community rehab and has produced a policy statement calling for urgent action to ensure rehabilitation needs can be met. The CSP has also developed the first in a series of quality standards to support services providing COVID-19 rehab.
The challenge is not only in understanding the rehabilitation needs of people recovering from COVID-19, but restarting services safely for those who previously had rehab needs that have been paused during lockdown. Resources for HEIs and Students
The CSP has been working alongside the HCPC, Health Education England and Council of Deans for Health to help shape our response to the COVID-19 outbreak. We have produced guidance and several FAQs for both students and HEIs which will be updated as the situation continues to evolve. One of the challenges we are currently facing is in providing middle years’ students with placement experience in a paid Support Worker role. This is an opportunity to think creatively as to how a placement may be provided that is a meaningful learning experience but also helps the physiotherapy workforce as services reopen.

Additional information and feedback
A reminder that for the NHS normal channels of communication, consultation and policies around organisational change should still apply, albeit perhaps on more flexible timescales, and so CSP stewards and safety reps should be approached with any concerns in these areas.
